Here are the answers to the Japanese festival quiz If you haven’t taken it go take it now!

1) A Matsuri is a festival (祭り)

2) Bon Odori (盆踊り)is a traditional community dance at the Bon festival in summer

3) During Setsubun (節分), one eats the same number of beans as your age to be granted good health in the future

4) Koinobori resemble windsocks in the shape of carp. They come in various sizes and colours with beautiful designs on them

5) Hanabi means fireworks. Fireworks festivals are most common during the summer festival season.

6) Nagashi bina is an event held on girls’ day on 3rd march. Dolls in boats are floated on water to ward off bad luck

7) The girls’ festival is also know as the Peach Tree Festival

8) The Yukki Matsuri or snow festival is held in Sapporo on the northern island of Hokkaido

9) An uchiwa is a fan

10) Tsukimi or moon viewing is a festival held in mid september.
