Hello!

My Name is Nikolaus and i'm originally from Austria but live now in Germany. I'm an accounting clerk and I'm studying japanese because I want to understand my animes which I only watch in japanese with englisch subtitles because the german synchronisation is mostly crap aaand there are many animes which don't get published here.

I think my favorite food is food as whole *g* i only dislike tomatoes (maybe because of the old american animated series "Killer Tomatoes" ^^') but I think I'll go with Sushi for now - I don't think many people know "Sachertorte" Cheesy (you can google it if you're curious - and yes - i can actually bake it!).

Anything I want to tell everybody: Maybe only that I'm looking forward to this opportunity to study japanese with everybody else here and I hope Alex doesn't get bored doing this really helpfull and fun podcast. I think I learned more here than in my textbooks ^^. And yes - it's a little difficult to learn japanese over english buuut I'm quite confident in my english and my online dictionary Cheesy Ah and when I'm finally able to form a whole sentence in japanese I'm looking for anybody who is from japan for a language exchange thingy like Alex mentioned so many times on the podcast!

That's all for now!

Hi there,

Name:  My name is Dan though I go by Krimson on the interwebs.

Location: I live in Calgary Canada.

Occupation:  I currently work in a Bakery.  If anyone has a nice recipe for meronpan, I'd love to have it.

Japanese ability:  Beginner.  Though apparently I know more of the language than my two coworkers who have actually lived in Japan.

Why are you interested in Japanese:  I live in Calgary Canada.  I studied a little Japanese back in high school almost 20 years ago.  I started getting back into it about a year ago when I started getting into anime and discovered the wonderful world of subs.  My Japanese is still at a basic level, though I have a grasp of the grammar.  I'm mainly learning it for fun, though it would be nice to make some practical use of it.

Favorite food: Sushi is definitely high on the list, particularly salmon sashimi.  Though I do have a love of Mediterranean/middle eastern food after spending a few years working in a Lebanese deli.  Avocados probably rank amongst my favorite fruit, though I am quite fond of coconut and lychee as well.

Favorite drink:  Coffee, orange juice, water with lemon juice.  When I drink alcohol I prefer rum.

Anything else you want to tell everyone:  I'd really like to work on my Vocabulary and Kana.  I know a little Mandarin as well, and some of it does carry over.  I speak conversational French and at one time I could speak Esperanto as well, though I kind of abandoned that because its really not practical.

Name:  Hi! My name is Lauren.

Location: Brantford, Ontario, Canada (about an hour southwest of Toronto).

Occupation: I work as a video editor at a TV station.

Japanese ability:  Beginner. Started studying in September 2009, took two semesters of a Japanese language class at a college. Now that the class is over, I want to keep learning on my own! We learned mostly in Romaji, learning Hiragana. Now I am becoming comfortable with Hiragana on my own, still have to learn Katakana and start learning some Kanji!

Why are you interested in Japanese:  I would love to travel to Japan someday! I also love the culture, the food, the people, all things Japanese! I also love video games and would love to someday be able to play some games that are in Japanese. I also love Miyazaki movies and would love to watch those in Japanese!

Favorite food: Well, I am a vegetarian (have been my whole life!) and I love any Japanese food that is vegetarian (sushi rolls, soba, tofu). I also love chocolate!!!  also, curry. Smiley

Favorite drink:  Coffee is my #1!  I also enjoy red wine and green tea.

Anything else you want to tell everyone:  I'm really enjoying the podcast and I'm looking forward to learning and improving my Japanese! Need to work on my reading and writing. Well, need to work on everything! Hopefully we can help each other learn! Smiley

Nice to meet you guys! Smiley
