What are your Japanese Study Goals?
YOSH! It’s 2017. Let’s do this people!
What are you Japanese study goals for 2017? Do you want to learn the basics of Japanese? Would you like to learn phrases for traveling in Japan? Would you like to learn how to read manga or understand Anime? Perhaps you want to learn something specific like Japanese for getting an IT job or gaming.
Whatever it is I would love to hear what YOUR Japanese study goals are. Now here’s what I want you to do. Write a comment below with the following 3 points:
- What is your Japanese study goal?
- What steps will you take to achieve it?
- What is your deadline to achieve it?
That’s it! If you write that down below, we can start a discussion on how to achieve it in more detail.
Good luck and I look forward to getting your comments.

AKEOME ALEX!!!!
Thank you for the podcasts and for sharing your knowledge of Japanese.
My goal for 2017 is to find my Japanese voice. I have been studying vocabulary, writing and grammar, but have not yet been brave enough to speak!!
To change that, I plan to find an online Japanese tutor.
By New Year’s Day 2018, I would like to be comfortable enough to Skype in Japanese with my friend Mitsuyo.
Funny that I feel a bit awkward speaking Japanese aloud. I speak English and French and feel myself. I have studied German and felt myself. I have a smattering of Spanish, Italian, Hindi and Sinhalese and do not remember feeling such a distance from my own voice!
I think the stereotypical Japanese woman’s voice — you know the automated one announcing train stops or the stewardess voice — has contributed to this because it does not suit me.
My 2017 Japanese language goal, is to find my own Japanese voice!
All the best for 2017.
Sincerely,
Heather Culliford
Heather, thank you so much for sharing your Japanese study goals. That’s great and I’m sure you can do it. Please keep posting here to keep me up to date with your progress. One tip you might find useful. If you want to develop a good Japanese accent, find a Japanese actress you like and shadow their voice from audio from Youtube videos. Hope that helps!
